Throwback Thursday – An Endless Sea of Stars

Stars cover

This month is the third anniversary of my m/m sci-fi book An Endless Sea of Stars, so I’m showing Lieutenant Tobias Dekker and Commander Caden Flynn some love on this Throwback Thursday. Stop by my blog to read the first chapter for FREE! And it’s ON SALE for only $0.99 at my Payhip site! https://payhip.com/jamielynnmiller

The Florida sun shone brightly in the clear blue sky as twenty-three year old Tobias Dekker made his way down the boardwalk, adjusting the collar of one of his many colorfully patterned shirts, his flip-flops smacking against the weather-beaten wood.

Another day in paradise, he thought, looking up as a shuttlecraft buzzed by overhead, coming from one of the resorts, heading to the landing pad here at the marina.

A few more steps and Toby pulled open the door to Captain Hook’s Fishing Charter and Dive Center, taking off his sunglasses and tucking them into his shirt pocket. He ran a hand through his short blond hair, his blue eyes scanning around the interior of the shop. He inhaled deeply, a smile crossing his face at the familiar smell of the ocean that permeated even inside. Hook’s had been his home away from home throughout most of his teenage and young adult years. It meant even more to him now that he was living on the other side of the country in San Francisco and didn’t make it down here as often as he wished.

He made his way toward the front counter, weaving through the many tourists, both human and alien, who were browsing the scuba and fishing equipment, eager to start their ocean adventure here in the Keys. Toby couldn’t help but do a double-take at a species he’d only seen on holo vids. He hadn’t realized that the small, orange-skinned Woldun had begun visiting Florida.

He smiled and shook his head. It shouldn’t surprise him. So many things had changed in the last fifteen years. He’d only been eight years old in 2106 when the first alien species made contact with Earth. That was two years after manned space flight broke free of both the Earth’s and the moon’s orbit and struck out into the Milky Way. All thanks to the StarDrive engine and the Gemini prototype spacecraft. Eighteen months later astronauts had visited all nine planets and then explored nearly every corner of the Milky Way. Plans were made to begin construction of a NASA base on Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons.

Throwback Thursday – Rogue Soldier

It’s the one year anniversary of Rogue Soldier (Shadow Unit Book 2) so I’m showing Sergeants Connor Finley and Shawn Weller some love on this Throwback Thursday. Stop by my blog to read the first chapter for FREE!

Shawn looked down at his blood soaked hands, at Connor lying motionless beside him on the rocky ground.

“It can’t end like this. Not like this…”

“Bloody hell!

Sergeant Connor Finley swore as he ducked behind the crate a split second before a spray of bullets slammed into it, sending shards of wood flying toward his face. This op had gone both pear shaped and sideways and he needed to get control of it. Immediately. Shadow Unit only had one chance left.

Connor began running through possible scenarios as fast as his brain could process them just as their target let loose with another barrage of automatic gunfire, the muzzle flash lighting up the night.

Connor glanced to his left as his partner cursed and hunched over behind his own crate. Despite the seriousness of the situation, Connor idly thought that someday soon he’d keep a tally of how many times Shawn Weller actually said the word “fuck” in a twenty-four hour period. Did they teach him that back in his Navy SEAL days?

Shawn’s gaze flicked to the house and back. “We need to do something,” he said. “He’s the last one left.”

Connor clenched his jaw, the muscle jumping. As if he needed another reminder. “I know, I – ” he began but cut himself off as his comm crackled to life. A split second later the gruff voice of his commanding officer was in his ear.

“Shadow One. Alpha. Send sit-rep,” Lieutenant Colonel David MacDonald demanded in his Scottish brogue.

“Shit,” Connor spat, banging his head back against the crate. He ran a hand over his face then responded. “Alpha. Shadow One. We have one target remaining,” Connor reported back. There was a long pause and Connor could picture the scowl on MacDonald’s face from where he sat at the communications desk back at the hub, five miles away.

“Need I remind you we need him alive, Sergeant?” MacDonald finally responded.

Evan Singer is the new guy in town, a paramedic transferred into Station 127 from San Antonio, and he sets his eyes on Lucas from the get-go.

Neither knowing who the other is, their first meeting is explosive, a night of passion and desire that awakens something inside Lucas he never thought he’d feel again.

But when Lucas discovers that Evan is a paramedic, it all comes crashing down. For despite the feelings he has for Evan, Lucas has vowed to never again get involved with someone on the job, after losing Ryan to it.

Can Evan convince Lucas to open up his heart and take a chance on love again, despite who Evan is?

Throwback Thursday – Shadow Unit series

Soldier books

For Throwback Thursday I’m at Grace Duncan’s blog talking about my m/m military Shadow Unit series. It’s a perfect time to find out about Sergeant Shawn Weller and Sergeant Connor Finley’s first missions before Hunted Soldier (Book 3) is published next month!

Throwback Thursday – Broken Soldier

Broken cover 6x9 BOOK 1

It was a year ago this month that Broken Soldier (Shadow Unit Book 1) was published. With Book 3 (Hunted Soldier)  well underway, I wanted to show some love on this Throwback Thursday to Sergeant Connor Finley and Sergeant Shawn Weller’s first mission with a free read of Chapter One!

Sergeant Connor Finley and Sergeant Shawn Weller are dedicated soldiers working covert ops for Shadow Unit — a joint UK/US anti-terrorism task force.

Partners in the field and out, they had been through hell together for the last four years and made it through standing side by side. But when their latest undercover op to bring down an arms dealer plunges them into a world of drugs, sex and violence, Shawn must literally get in bed with the enemy in order to complete the mission. And Connor is forced to watch, helpless, as his partner is broken into pieces.

Will love be enough to put them both back together or will this be their final mission?

WARNING: Contains scenes of drug use, graphic sex and realistic situations

The first thing Sergeant Connor Finley noticed was the heat. He hadn’t been on the tiny balcony for more than three minutes and his green t-shirt was already damp with sweat and sticking to his chest and back. What he wouldn’t give to be at home in his native cool and wet London instead of Kuala Lumpur in the middle of summer. And at the Ritz instead of this crappy hotel in the middle of Chinatown.

Connor brushed a bead of sweat from his brow and leaned cautiously against the sagging railing to better overlook his surroundings. It was an assault to all five of his senses. Everywhere he looked was a riot of color – the bright clothing of the tourists and locals, the fabric awnings over the shops and the flags flying above the stalls that lined every inch of the crowded streets. He drew in a breath of air that was filled with the smells of a complex variety of cuisines from a wide cross-section of cultures being sold from the food vendors. Even up here on the fourth floor, it wasn’t difficult for Connor to hear the sounds of dozens of conversations, the honking of car horns or the shouts of the vendors trying to entice both locals and tourists alike to purchase their wares.

Behind him, Connor heard his hotel room door open and close, but he didn’t turn from his observations. He’d know the footfalls of his partner anywhere. A moment later Sergeant Shawn Weller stepped up beside him, a lit cigarette held between his fingers. Connor turned to look at his partner as Shawn leaned on the balcony railing.

Besides the fact that both he and Shawn were 36 years-old, they were a study in contrasts. Darkness and light.
