Freya’s Book Brief
In this double instalment, I was treated to a mega dose of action, emotion and some excellent man lovin’. Three things Jamie Lynn Miller does extremely well. Add to that the deliciousness of firemen and we’re onto a winner.
When fireman Luke lost his love, Ryan, in an explosion, he vowed never to date anyone from the job again. Then he encountered Evan, and the embers of a fire ignited in his soul that he didn’t know he was capable of. But, Evan was in the business, too, and that was a relationship Luke couldn’t let happen.
Every time a fireman attends a call, it could be his last. The heartache of losing a loved one is too much for Luke. But, not having someone you care about, is almost as heartbreaking.
Burnin’ For You focusses on the development of the relationship between Luke and Evan and the events that cement it. The intricacy of the scenes shows that some serious research was done into firefighting. Short of a few autonomous body parts and some passive rather than active phrasing; the pages are filled with a heady combination of adrenaline fuelled scenes.
Book Two – Where There’s Smoke, doesn’t hold back on the action either. It was nice to see that the author was unafraid to show that not every incident has a happy ending.
The main arc in this book has Lucas snagging himself an admirer, after saving the man’s life. Unfortunately, the admirer has a different twisted way of showing his thanks, believing divine intervention has played a hand in their meeting.
Again, there is action on all fronts; firefighting, plot and intimate. Can’t go into too much detail as individually the stories are not long and I don’t want to give everything away. But, as a pair, they make for a full-length novel – one I couldn’t stop reading.
If you are a reader that has hankered for a good fireman story – this is one/two.
