4.5 STARS for Burnin’ for You from Freya at Sinfully Gay Book Reviews!

Freya’s Book Brief

In this double instalment, I was treated to a mega dose of action, emotion and some excellent man lovin’. Three things Jamie Lynn Miller does extremely well. Add to that the deliciousness of firemen and we’re onto a winner.

When fireman Luke lost his love, Ryan, in an explosion, he vowed never to date anyone from the job again. Then he encountered Evan, and the embers of a fire ignited in his soul that he didn’t know he was capable of. But, Evan was in the business, too, and that was a relationship Luke couldn’t let happen.

Every time a fireman attends a call, it could be his last. The heartache of losing a loved one is too much for Luke. But, not having someone you care about, is almost as heartbreaking.

Burnin’ For You focusses on the development of the relationship between Luke and Evan and the events that cement it. The intricacy of the scenes shows that some serious research was done into firefighting. Short of a few autonomous body parts and some passive rather than active phrasing; the pages are filled with a heady combination of adrenaline fuelled scenes.

Book Two – Where There’s Smoke, doesn’t hold back on the action either. It was nice to see that the author was unafraid to show that not every incident has a happy ending.

The main arc in this book has Lucas snagging himself an admirer, after saving the man’s life. Unfortunately, the admirer has a different twisted way of showing his thanks, believing divine intervention has played a hand in their meeting.

Again, there is action on all fronts; firefighting, plot and intimate. Can’t go into too much detail as individually the stories are not long and I don’t want to give everything away. But, as a pair, they make for a full-length novel – one I couldn’t stop reading.

If you are a reader that has hankered for a good fireman story – this is one/two.

Blurb:

This is truly an incredible series. But first and foremost: TRIGGER WARNINGS FOR VIOLENCE AND DRUG USE. Jamie Lynn Miller did such an incredible job on this whole series. I was addicted to it from the begging to the end. I did not want to put any of the books down until I completed them. That is just how amazing they was.

The Shadow Unit is an elite unit made up of men and women that are the best of the best. They are all military trained in some form or fashion and they need to be because of the situations they find themselves in on almost a daily basis. When there is an op that needs the experts to be able to take the bad guy, Shadow Unit is the ones called in.

These books are based around primarily two main characters, Connor and Shawn. They are partners both on and off the field and they work together like one. If not for the help of their whole unit, they may not be as successful as they are but there is no doubt that without each other they may not make it out of the tight spots they find themselves in on a regular basis.

This two men are what pulls the other out of the dangerous situations and grounds them back into reality. If they did not have one another, they would be truly lost.

This read has a lot of danger but at the same time Shawn and Connors personal relationship with one another seems to balance the bad with the good they have together.

This series is truly an incredible read and is definitely a series that I would put on my highly recommended read list. I think that Jamie Lynn Miller is an amazing author and I truly hope there will be more books in this series in the future. Incredible read!!!!!

Makin Island Sailors Show Their Pride

Love these stories about the military and Pride. 🙂

SAN DIEGO, CA, UNITED STATES

06.19.2017

Story by Petty Officer 2nd Class Dennis Grube

USS Makin Island (LHD 8)

SAN DIEGO — Sailors aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) celebrated Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month with an observance hosted by the ship’s Diversity Committee, June 19.

During the event, themed “Pride in All Who Serve,” Sailors and Marines recognized the accomplishments of the LGBT community and its contributions to the Navy.

Commanding Officer Capt. Mark Melson delivered the opening remarks.

“Pride Month shows the importance of diversity in our Navy, and how that diversity makes us stronger,” said Melson. “If you or your shipmates can’t serve while being genuine to yourself and who you are at your core, then it makes it hard to be an effective Sailor and war-fighter.”

The guest of honor, Command Master Chief (ret.) Kathy Hansen, spoke about her experiences in the Navy as a member of the LGBT community.

“I never thought I’d be able to talk to you today about LGBT pride, marry the person I love and actively serve in our military while being openly gay,” said Hansen. “There were a number of people discharged during my time simply for who they chose to love.”

Members of the ship’s Gay, Lesbian and Supporting Sailors (GLASS) association shared their personal experiences with the audience and discussed historical facts of the Pride movement.

“It has been so incredibly humbling to be a part of GLASS and serve as its president, watching it grow from a small group of five people to over 40 members,” said Fire Controlman 2nd Class Rachel Koons, from State College, Penn. “Pride is about celebrating who you are and who you love. It’s amazing to live in a time where people can celebrate who they are and have the opportunity to serve their country as an openly gay person.”

Prohibitions for members of the LGBT community to serve in the military ended September 2011, after Congress voted to repeal the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.

After taking the crew through her career during “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” Hansen left the audience with a final word of advice.

“Who you love doesn’t define the leader you will be,” said Hansen. “You should be true to yourself and okay with who you are no matter who you love. We, as a Navy and as human beings, should always treat everyone with dignity and respect regardless of age, race or sexual orientation.”

Canada’s Navy urges sailors to attend Gay Pride parades in uniform

Have I mentioned how much I love Canada?

CANADA, June 27, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) — Royal Canadian Navy commander Vice-Admiral Ron Lloyd urged sailors last week to attend “Pride” events in uniform without any special permission to show that the Navy is “diverse” and “inclusive.”

“In an effort to epitomize diversity and inclusion,” Lloyd wrote in his directives, “the (Navy) encourages attendance to Pride events and authorizes the wear of uniform to participate in or attend the parade.”

The Navy commander said that effective immediately, Navy personnel no longer had to seek permission in order to wear their uniforms in homosexual “Pride” parades.

Lloyd marched in last year’s Pride Parade in Toronto. He told Canadian Press that he issued the directives after meeting with members of the LGBTQ community, who complained to him about Navy members needing permission to wear their uniforms in Pride Parades.

“They were speaking to the fact that you needed chain-of-command approval in order to wear a uniform,” he said.

“There is no reason why you should not be able to march in that parade in uniform if you should be so inclined. … I didn’t ask permission, and maybe I was supposed to. But it’s about being inclusive,” he added.

Now, following the Navy’s lead, Army General Jonathan Vance is planning on issuing similar directives.

National Defence spokesman Daniel Le Bouthillier told Canadian Press that the military-wide directive is still being developed, but will likely look like the Navy’s directives.

“The Canadian Armed Forces recognizes that the strength of the team comes from the diversity of its people, which is why participation in Pride parades is absolutely supported.” he said.

Homosexual activists strategized decades ago that the best way to gain the public’s acceptance of their lifestyle and behaviors was to win support from corporations and all levels of public services, including police, firefighters, and military.
