Connor Finley and Shawn Weller were partners on the job and in the bedroom. Their jobs as Shadow Unit agents could be in jeopardy if their affair got out, so they decided to keep the relationship secret. They are assigned an undercover case that not only tests their boundaries as partners, but also as lovers. Shawn was assigned to be an arms dealer’s boy toy, while Connor would be the bodyguard. What could possibly go wrong? EVERYTHING
Shawn has to debase himself for the sick entertainment of the arms dealer while Connor stood helplessly by and watched. Forced to take drugs and drink tons of alcohol, Shawn spiraled out of control. He thought that he could take on the arms dealer, but he was the one being handled.
Connor was ready to end the mission when he witnessed Shawn’s personality change, but Shawn insisted that he could deal with it. Connor remained resilient and stoic despite what he was witnessing. Eventually, Connor had to choose what was more important, the mission or Shawn’s life.
This story had me on the edge of my seat. I was constantly worried that Shawn would be found out, but also wanted him to quit the case. He went through so much abuse from the arms dealer, but remained strong. Any other person would have fallen apart. I liked the pace of the story, but wish there was a little more character development with Connor. She showed that he deeply cared for him, but some of their interactions lacked the passion that I’m used to in other M/M books. I did like how the story played out and was happy with the ending.
