Wonderful reviews for Burnin’ for You

BurninforYoubanner

I’ve received several very positive reviews of Burnin’ for You that I wanted to share:

“Miller blends blistering M/M sex scenes with a truly tender love story that is emotional and real. The firehouse scenes and three action-packed, edge of your seat incidents Station 127 handles are just amazing. Miller writes these scenes as deftly as she does the often emotionally bruising love scenes in which Lucas struggles with the idea opening his heart once again.”

“Miller hits a home run with the tension and action at the end. It’s difficult to describe without spoilers, but the emotional and technical balance as well as the quick pace keeps you flipping the pages until the resolution.”

– Whipped Cream Reviews

“There is nothing sexier than watching firemen perform their duties, and Jamie Lynn Miller gives us a prime view of the men doing what they do best. This is a wonderful story about losing love and second chances for a new beginning in life. If you have a thing for those men who know how to put out a fire, then you will definitely enjoy Burnin’ for You.”

“Hot sex, unwilling emotions, angst, adventure…Burnin’ for You has it all. The writing is near perfect and I can’t wait to read more from Jamie Lynn Miller.”

My research for Burnin’ for You – captured on film

Fireman Jamie in action!

Amazingly enough, I was able to document my 14 days with the fire department doing research for Burnin’ for You because one of the guys at the station was an amateur photographer and took a whole bunch of pics of me. Talk about a wonderful memento to have! I thought I’d share a few of them with all of you…

Here I am getting fitted for my turnout gear. I’m pretty small, so it took a while to find pants that would fit me. Little did I know, but thanks to me wearing that shirt that day my nickname became Super Girl. 🙂

1-Turnout gear

Here I am in my full gear including helmet and air tank. Man, let me tell you, that stuff is HEAVY.

2-Jamie in uniform

I’m learning how to properly put on my oxygen tank from where it was lying on the floor. It’s not as easy as it looks, because it’s heavy and awkward and you have to be a bit of a contortionist to do this swinging move where you go across your chest before twisting your arms to get it back behind you and over your shoulders.

3-Oxygen tank

I’m getting ready to go into the burn tower and I’m being instructed on how to get a positive seal on my mask. It’s TIGHT and it reminded me of that face-hugging creature from Alien. 🙂

4-Oxygen tank2

Inside the burn tower. That’s my helmet there in the middle in both pictures. I can’t tell you how freaking neat it was to be in there and just WATCH fire. It might be deadly, but it’s also beautiful. I learned so much about how fire behaves in different situations and how to use the hose and water properly to extinguish it.

7-Burn tower2       6-Burn tower1

Me goofing around with some of the guys as I climbed up on the engine

8-Climbing on truck

The guys regularly practice extricating “victims” from car wrecks and I got to take part in one. Here I’m learning how to use the axe to break out a windshield. And with safety glass these days it’s not always very easy.

9-Jamie with axe

And finally, me and the Jaws of Life. Wow! The power behind this tool is stunning! Here I am snapping one of the supports to help remove the entire roof of the car. It was like a knife cutting through butter. But the kickback after it snaps left me with bruises!

10-Jaws of life

So there you have it. The photographic evidence of the research that went into Burnin’ for You. I can’t thank my local fire department enough for allowing me to tag along for two weeks. They were nothing but accommodating and welcoming to me. I hold them in even higher regard now. The job they do is difficult and dangerous and I hope all of that comes through in my book.

Burnin’ for You – NOW ON SALE!

Burnin_for_you_COVER

I’m happy to announce my novel Burnin’ for You is now available! I’m wildly passionate about this book (which also includes the sequel Where There’s Smoke) because of all the research I put into it. I spent 14 days with my local fire department, one of the most amazing experiences of my life.

I was fitted for my own turnout gear and went on ride-a-longs, where I sat in the jump seat in the engine. I was inside a live burn tower where I got to experience a “backdraft” first hand and help to put it out. I learned how to find my way blind in the dark in a smoke filled room wearing an oxygen tank and mask and full turnout gear. I went 60 feet up in the air in the snorkel. I learned exactly how the paramedics operate and looked at all their gear. I saw how the apparatus and equipment rooms were set up. I learned how to roll hose and attach it to a hydrant and the crucial role the engineer plays in getting that water to the fire. I used the Jaws of Life to pry a door off of a car and used an axe to break out a windshield.

Like I said – most amazing experience of my life.

And during all this, I took notes. Lots and lots of notes. Notebooks full. Because I knew someday I was going to write a story. Or four. 🙂  Not only does this book encompass my love of the fire department, but it’s also an homage to my favorite shows like Emergency and Third Watch. Station 127 is real. It’s the actual department in California where Emergency was filmed and I was lucky enough to visit there several years ago. And it still looks just like the fictitious Station 51!

So here it is, the story of Lucas and Evan and how they battled their way through smoke and flames to find their happy ending. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

EXCERPT:

“We need to talk,” Evan said firmly, walking toward Lucas.

Lucas turned from the sinks to face Evan. “No. We don’t,” he replied, just as strongly.

“You owe me an explanation, damn it,” Evan countered, and Lucas could sense the hurt under his words.

Hardening himself, he flung his reply at the young man. “I was drunk. It was nothing but a mistake, sleeping with you. End of story.”

Evan shook his head. “No. No, I’m not buying that. You never would’ve called me on Sunday if that was true.”

Knowing he was caught, Lucas floundered for a moment before finding his voice, softer this time. “Evan…nothing more can happen between us. So just let it go. Please.”

“I don’t understand. Why are you acting like this?” Evan asked plaintively, taking another step toward Lucas, reaching out to touch him. “What’s going – “
